Some quadriplegics need assistance to get into bed, either from a person or a lift system of some sort. Chris Colwell, a C5-6 quadriplegic, has a system for independently transferring from power chair to bed in under 4 minutes.

Using the tilt and lift features on his chair to get his body into the ideal position, he then lifts his legs up onto his bed. Lowering his chair back down and tilting the back down, Chris then does an independent transfer from his chair to his bed with the help of a few adaptations installed above his bed that enhance his independence.

Transfers can be tricky, especially when you’re working with limited upper mobility, so be sure to talk to your doctor or therapist to talk about which options are best for you.
