“I just know that anytime I’m having a bad day…that’s going to happen to anybody whether you’re a quad, para or able-bodied."
“If it’s a bad day, it’s a bad day. Let it go. Do what you gotta do to relax and forget about it. Know you’re going to wake up the next day with a better attitude and a better outlook on life," shares Shawn Fluke, quadriplegic.
Staying motivated and keeping a positive attitude in life have helped Shawn better his life since his spinal cord injury. He also has learned to set little goals for himself along the way. “Don’t overwhelm yourself with trying to learn and do too much at once,” he advises. “Take one step at a time, one day at a time.” Shawn keeps a mindset where he knows things will get better, and believes everyone has the mental strength to do it.
If you need help maintaining this attitude, Shawn recommends heading to your local support group or checking out information online (that's what AbleThrive exists for)! You are not alone in this journey.
