Claire has been a wheelchair-user since a fall paralyzed her when she was 19 years old, but that doesn’t stop her from doing things she loves.
“I think I realize that I have to be independent so that I can take care of myself and my family in the future,” she shares on how she managed to overcome her physical and emotional challenges. “I was being realistic that I need to support myself, so I started working once I got out of the hospital.” She doesn’t want pity or special treatment, but to be seen like everyone else, doing their best to grow and succeed.
“Do not dwell…on what has happened. We all got to move on so just strive. As much as it may be a bad thing that happened to you…you wouldn’t know what you can accomplish and how independent you can get.”
And Claire has been doing just that. “Getting into APG (ASEAN Para Games) and that I started studying again” are her greatest accomplishments since her spinal cord injury. For Claire, the possibilities are endless, and she’s still exploring.
