Taking care of your skin is an absolute necessity. Avoiding pressure sores can seem daunting, but with the right routine and knowledge, you can make sure you don’t get sidelined.

“A pressure ulcer is an injury to the skin and underlying tissue that occurs when prolonged pressure is placed on the area. It’s most likely to develop on skin that covers bony areas of the body, including the hips and buttocks, putting wheelchair users at increased risk.”

Pressure sores can develop quickly and can have a long recovery but they are completely preventable.

  • Hydrate.
  • Visually check your skin for redness. (Use a mirror if you need!)
  • Use proper seating equipment and only sit on appropriate surfaces.
  • Maintain a healthy diet.
  • Don’t smoke.
