Stretching your limbs is vital if you want to maintain your overall health. Leg stretches, whether done independently or with the aid of a caregiver, help with things like proper position in your wheelchair, spasticity, and transfers.

Leg stretches that caregivers can assist with to ensure that feet and legs stay flexible and loose:

  1. Stretch the ankle by bending the foot back to the knee.
  2. Bring the leg out to the side, keeping toes pointed to the ceiling.
  3. Lift the leg straight up to stretch hamstring.
  4. Bend the knee to the chest and hold for 20 seconds.
  5. Bend the knee out to the side to stretch the rotators.
